Futilitarianism

Glen Whitman has commented on the interpersonal utility comparison interbloggerel dispute we've been having here, taking Brian's side.

Both Brian and he are wrong, and I could construct an argument that would suggest why. However, this seems tedious, since anybody sufficiently interested in the debate can, probably, at this point construct what my response would be based on my prior post on the subject. That constructed, he or she can judge which side is correct accordingly.

Ever tantalizing, Whitman promises to explain how he can both be a utilitarian and believe interpersonal utility comparisons are impossible.

This is an explanation I'm eager to hear.
