Moore\'s Law of Razors

From the Economist:

So what does the future hold? With only five data-points, it is hard to be sure exactly which mathematical curve is being followed. If it is what is known as a power law, then the 14-bladed razor should arrive in 2100. The spate of recent innovation, however, suggests it may be a hyperbola. In that case, blade hyperdrive will be reached in the next few years and those who choose not to sport beards might be advised to start exercising their shaving arms now.

And here I was believing that the Mach 3 was the greatest technological advance since Chuck Norris roundhouse-kicked his way out of his mother's womb, thus inventing the Caesarian section.

Yeah, but if you leave the single-bladed razor out (not out of the question), it could certainly be a power function.

If you haven't yet tried the Fusion, I recommend it... And the little blade on the back for the area under your nose is damned useful. I've got skin that is fairly sensitive to shaving, and thought the Mach 3 Power was amazing when I first got it. And the Fusion is even better.

I don't think we're going to 14-blade razors. You need to think outside the box. I'm thinking they'll perfect either temporary electrolysis (i.e. you zap once a month and the hair doesn't grow back during that time), or a pill that stops hair from growing.

If you can see Chuck Norris, he can see you. If you can’t see Chuck Norris you may be only seconds away from death.

I've used the Fusion for a month now, and now that the blades have dulled the razor burn on the edges of the jaw have gone down, but the 5 blades + motor equalled far too close (sensitive, raw, then red and burned the 3rd day). However with the motor on it leaves the flat parts of my face very smooth, even banishing 5 o'clock shadow for the most part (granted, my 'beard' is mellow and sparse to begin with). Turning off the motor to get the curves seems to do the trick in avoiding the razor burn. I'd say that it has pluses and minuses over the Mach 3 (i.e. greater variance in good/bad) with the mean being higher. I think its worth it. And if you dont use the motor its pretty smooth anyway.
