According to a Steven Pinker lecture, Sony's official answer to the question of how to pluralize "Walkman":

"Sony Walkman brand personal stereos"

LEGO's designated plural

LEGO's designated plural ("LEGO brand building bricks and toys") was so unwieldy that even among LEGO employees, it became a collective noun -- "I have a pound of LEGO here," "Ship them eighteen hundred bricks of LEGO", etc. When I dealt with LEGO in the 90s, this usage was a nearly perfect way of figuring out whether the person you were talking to was a salesman (who would use the designated term, avoid the plural entirely, or slip accidentally into speaking of "LEGOs") or an actual human being with some experience and competence whom you could deal with (who would use the collective noun).

In any case it should be

In any case it should be walkperson. This isn't the middle ages any more after all, sheesh. Plural is walkpeople.

Do they really think that

Isn't this information we

Isn't this information we could have received - and then rejected - 10 years ago? Who the hell still uses a walkman, let alone more than one?

I say walkman. Or did when they were around. And please, no analogies this is like saying "walkwhite". Hofstader is annoying enough when spinning fanciful stories about rabbits and turtles.

"I say walkman." Sexist

"I say walkman."

Sexist swine. While we're on the topic, "iPod" is not sex neutral, as a pod holds seeds. See what happens when men dominate the corporate world.

Sexist swine. PC grinch.

Sexist swine.

PC grinch.

How absurd do my assertions

How absurd do my assertions have to get before you realize I'm kidding. I guess it is hard to out-do the absurdity of genuine PC.

I think reductio ad absurdum is dead as an art form. Sorry. :juggle:

First there was Sony's utter

First there was Sony's utter disdain for the property of computer owners with their destructive and insecure spyware rootkit. Then there are allegations that Sony was violating the LGPL with copies of LAME linked into their rootkit. I'll be happy to respect their intellectual property the day they respect other people's.
