Commentary below, full rankings on page 2, and my subjective reordering of the given Top 25 on page 3.

Huzzah, huzzah, Wisconsin and Cal are out of my top 5. Georgia is definitely for real, though Texas Tech is an improbable at 5 absent evidence of defense. How about Penn State, though? By sheer willpower the Nittany Lions beat Ohio State. No offense, but Tenacious D. At least at home; it remains to be seen if Joe Pa's freshmen can continue playing over their heads and not take a few on the chin as the Big Ten schedule wears on. But hats off to them in the meantime.

What a heartbreaker at Georgia Tech. I was hoping they'd win out, because I know NC State won't. Speaking both as a sympathetic fan and as a selfish VT fan, I wanted them to do well for their own sake and because every little bit helps us get over Texas in the BCS polling. I know that I have Texas as #1 since the end of week 1, but BCS-wise they're suspect and VT might jump past if the stars align. Or one of the two could lose. I don't care which one, as long as VT gets into the Show.

Louisville has risen from the ignominious defeat of a few weeks ago. I told you guys that talk of their demise was premature.

Thug life at UVA, still representing. The blatant personal foul (clipping) by one of UVA's players of a BC lineman is inexcusable. The ACC should force UVA to suspend him for several games, if not the season. There's no excuse for deliberately trying to injure people, especially well after the play is dead and the opposing player has their back turned.

The excellent suggestion of treating Notre Dame as its own conference by Jody of PolySciFi has led to some interesting insights; Notre Dame's schedule is featherweight. The only team of substance that they've played so far, Michigan State, beat them. Granted, they didn't beat them by much, but what we're left with is a diet of twinkies. Not much in between to tell us if Notre Dame is just a bit better than the cupcakes or just a little behind Michigan State. But really, up until this week 6 out of 11 teams on ND's schedule had just 1 win on the season. The average wins for ND's opponents are 2.45, while for comparison Virginia Tech's opponents average 3.0 wins. The average for all of Div 1-A is 2.77. ND currently has only two teams with 4 or more wins on its schedule currently, while Virginia Tech has four. So, after taking away all of the biases against ND and giving them the most favorable adjustments, they still don't get anywhere, and its due to the fact that they were mediocre last year and haven't beaten anyone of substance this year. I stand by my system's slagging of ND now- they need to do a lot more on the field before they should get ranked. The people ranking them now are more likely than not mistaking ND's past for their present and seeing any sign of life as an improper indication that they've returned to the glory days. More data are needed, I say.

I am impressed that despite Doug's Broncos taking it on the chin this week, they only dropped 2 spots.
