Le Grand Rex

Cinéma Le Rex, a.k.a. Le Grand Rex in Paris is a cultural treasure—it's the French movie theater. It's Europe's largest theater (in terms of seating capacity) and an architectural masterpiece in the Art Deco style. With that in mind, does anyone else find this picture amusing?

The photo is from Birkhäuser Architectural Guide, France, 20th Century. The last sentence of the entry reads: "It is one of the last few remaining venues that reflect the time when people went to the cinema as much for the experience as for the film." I hope so.
