American Idol Final 10

Last night we lost Jessica Sierra. I can't say that I am even remotely disappointed with the result. There is not a single performance of hers that I actually liked. Anthony, in spite of his awkward moves, cheesy facial expressions, and often-hit bad notes at least occasionally picks fairly good songs. Last night Jessica sang a song, which had a chorus that made me cringe: "We're on the side of angels, after all" The sort of sentiment those words conjure is downright nauseating.

This week was actually about an even split between good and bad performances. We started off with Bo Bice, who once again had an amazing performance. He sang "Remedy" by the Black Crows.

Constantine had probably the best performance of the night. He sang "I can't make you love me," by Bonnie Raitt. I would not have believed that Constantine could have pulled off that song if I had not heard it for myself. It was awesome. It was a smooth subdued melody, and his voice flowed perfectly with it.

When I heard that Anwar would be singing R. Kelley, my thought was "please, please don't sing 'I believe I can Fly.'" Of course I had no such luck. Paula said it was the most original version of the song she had ever heard. An "original rendition" of a song that consists of repeating "I believe I can fly" over and over, and never explains why the author has that particular belief :wall: . It was another one of Anwar's boring, "look I can belt out power notes, but can't pull off the rest of the song" performances, except this time he wasn't in tune for most of the song.

Anthony sang Elton John's "There's something about the way you look tonight." I really don't get how anyone can mess up that song, but Anthony managed to once again make it unentertainging, uninteresting, and not really good to listen to either.

Nadia sang "The Only One," and while she was better than last week, I really expected a performance of that song to be a little more interesting than Nadia made it. Her performance style is starting to get a little old. She used to remind me of Tamyra, but now she's starting to seem like a one-trick-pony.

Scott Savol sang "One Last Cry." This was also a cheesy song selection, and it was one of Scott's weaker performances. However Scott does seem to be getting noticably better each week, which is one of the reasons he hasn't had any trouble staying out of the bottom 3.

Nikko Smith sang "Can we talk." Nikko seems like a nice guy, and he is in no way annoying (at least not to me), but I really don't care for the songs he sings. That being said, he sings them well, and other people are bothering to vote for him so he will probably do well in the competition.

Carrie Underwood sang "Independence Day." It was not a song I was familiar with, but she sounded (and looked) good singing it.

Vonzell sang "I have nothing" by Whitney Houston. It was nice. Unlike the usual performances of Whitney Houston songs in years past, this one was actually pretty good.

Here is my ranking of worst to best from Tuesday night:

Jessica Sierra
Anthony Federov
Anwar Robinson
Nadia Turner
Scott Savol
Nikko Smith
Carrie Underwood
Bo Bice
Vonzell Solomon
Constantine Maroulis

:deal: I think that right

:deal: I think that right now(before i think it was Mario) carrie is the best in this competition, she has a great voice , but she probably has to be more spontaneous in her features...

Carrie will win this

Carrie will win this competition and include Independence Day on her record. She sang it once before in a preliminary audition, but hasn't sung the hook, which is the third verse:

It's Independence D ay
Well, she lit up the sky that Fourth of July
By the time that the firemen come
They just put out the flames and they took down some names
And sent me to the county home
Now I ain't saying it's right or it's wrong
But maybe it's the only way
Talk about your revolution
It's Independence Day
Let freedom ring, let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today is a day of reckoning
Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong
Roll that stone away, let the guilty pay

It's Independence Day, roll that stone away

Wish I'd seen it. I've

Wish I'd seen it. I've often thought that "I Can't Make You Love Me", performed on AI, would have to be either great or horrible.

We let the software do stuff

We let the software do stuff automatically, but generally speaking we (in the royal and plural sense) have a very, very light hand on the comments sections. Mostly because our commenters generally rock and thus don't need a heavy hand. But certainly not viewpoint moderation, heavens no...

Aren't these comments

Aren't these comments moderated? :behead:

Anyway, you'll no doubt be relieved to hear that, now that Mikalah is blessedly gone from the show, I don't really have any more strong opinions. Although I think Bo's performance could have been a bit more solid (and is he going to do that walking-out-into-the-audience thing EVERY TIME now?), I'm just sitting back and waiting for his inevitable victory.

I'm not following the

I'm not following the current season - tv broke and i don't care - but for me the premise has been validated by kelly clarkson's videos, which are geting heavy play at the clubs i go to. 'since you've been gone' is fun, if a lot like 'you're so yesterday' or that geena davis number in earth girls are easy. 'the trouble with love is' is very good.

Oh wow! You're right.

Oh wow! You're right. Constantine's boyish good looks have obviously compromised my weak female mind...
