School Shooting Fatigue

Nick Gillespie proposes a number of explanations why the Weise shooting hasn't gotten more attention in the media - "rich, white kids" weren't the victims, lack of a Trenchcoat mafia backdrop, and other big stories in the news. I think he misses the most believable explanation of all: desensitization. The first time it happened - Pearl? - was shocking. More shootings followed and the knowledge that Pearl wasn't a one-time event set in. Columbine was the shock value apex, having size, live footage of children fleeing the school, and schismatic social cliques. But now we're too familiar with school shootings for the events in Red Lake to elicit the same type of reaction.

Libertarian National Socialist Green Party.”

I know what each of these words means by themself, but I can’t imagine what it would mean to be a Libertarian National Socialist, much less what a Green Party member who was a Libertarian National Socialist would be.

Someone who loves freedom, markets, Hitler, the state, redistribution, Nader, and the enviornament?

I had read (can't remember

I had read (can't remember where) that the reservation was keeping the media at a distance. That might explain it to some extent.

Plus it's all Terri Schiavo, all the time right now.

The Boston Herald article

The Boston Herald article just mentions this in passing:

If Weise was quiet in school, he became an extrovert in cyberspace. It appeared he may have posted messages on a neo-Nazi Web site expressing admiration for Hitler and calling himself “Todesengel,’’ German for the “Angel of Death.’’

Several notes signed by a Jeff Weise, who identified himself as “a Native American from the Red Lake `Indian’ Reservation,’’ were posted beginning last year on a Web site operated by the Libertarian National Socialist Green Party.

In one posting, he criticized interracial mixing on the reservation and slammed fellow Indian teens for listening to rap music. “We have kids my age killing each other over things as simple as a fight, and it’s because of the rap influence,’’ he wrote.

(emphises added) I’m really not sure whether the Libertarian National Socialist Green Party is an actual group or a joke.

I also read this morning that the boy[shooter] was taking anti-depressants[I only read the headline] and wonder what, if any, role that could have played in the tragedy.
