How Conspiracy Theories Get Started

The right incentives and just enough believability. If a terrorist attack does occur between now and the auction, people will look back at this story and connect dots.

It's about how Gen. Tommy Franks believes that in the event of a WMD attack on U.S. soil, the Constitution will be discarded and martial law will take over.

What a loon. Everyone knows the Constitution was discarded a long time ago.

Auction...hmm, I hadn't thought about it that way before, Jonathan, but it usually does go to the highest bidder, doesn't it?

Have the Brownshirts taken you, old sport?

" I don?t see why Bin Ladin would want Bush back in."

What do you think Bin Laden's goals are?

So what outcome does Osama

So what outcome does Osama want? If there is an attack of any kind, isn't that more likely to tip the scales in Bush's favor? Not because of a logical connection between Bush and fighting terrorism, but just because Bush seems more proactive militarily and people will be afraid again. I don't see why Bin Ladin would want Bush back in.

This sticker seems to imply that Bin Laden wants Kerry in:

"What do you think Bin Laden?s goals are?"

For all I really know, Osama is a fictional character, but assuming he's not, I've always understood his primary goal to be to rid the Middle East holy lands of the 'infidels.' I thought he turned his guns on us when our military first started occupying certain places there, including our presence in Saudi Arabia. So assuming this is his primary goal, wouldn't he want Kerry in office, so we'd be less likely to run around the Middle East "looking for WMD"?

Then again, I also assume another of Bin Laden's goals to be for Muslims to hate America, so our presence in the Middle East is certainly meeting that goal. Is this the goal he wants to meet first?
