There's hope after all

Jeff Jarvis notes that a local 'grassroots' organization is hiring workers to campaign against Bush for $300-$500 a week.

In response Jeff says, perhaps ironically, perhaps not, that in his day "we volunteered for campaigns because we cared, not because we were paid."

I dunno. I think its a good thing that people are less willing to sacrifice their time and effort to rule people via politics, and that they instead demand compensation for political activity. It means that society has developed such that apolitical acts are more desired than political ones, which suggests that True Liberation is closer than we thought.

Those workers are being paid with donated money, so this is just a question people are donating more time or money. Either way, they're donating to a political cause.
