Mainstream Media and Blogs

Mark Baard of Wired has an article describing the growth of blogging as a medium and how mainstream media outlets are getting involved in blogging.

"(The media companies) are publishing blogs for the same reason the U.S. invaded Iraq, simply because they can," said Christopher Lydon, host of an online radio series, The Blogging of the President: 2004, and former host of The Connection, a talk show on National Public Radio.

Lydon, speaking in a discussion between journalists and bloggers at Bloggercon, said the media companies are "publishing blogs with impunity, and out of a sense of noblesse oblige."

When print publications go

When print publications go into the blog business, they have to deal with their posts being linked throughout the blogosphere, and systematically cross-examined, point by point, on logic and evidence (I can't bring myself to call it "fisking"). And given the ho-hum blogging efforts of most mainstream media outlets, it's likely that more people will read them through their critics' dissected versions, rather than in the original. Bring it on.
