"Unbiased Government Science" is a Contradiction in Terms

Over on Reason, Ron Bailey explains some of the reasons those who expect unbiased information from State-funded scientific research are bound to be disappointed—unfortunately, many people's definition of "unbiased information" seems to be "information which supports my bias".

This problem is not unique to State-funded scientific research, but it is particularly dangerous in that context because many people accept the authority of the State, and give extra weight to "official" government science that it does not deserve.

There is no such thing as unbiased information. The best we can do is to be aware of our biases and try to compensate for them, when necessary. When we communicate with others we must disclose our biases so that others can take them into account in evaluating what we say. Finally, we must never forget that we might be wrong, especially if we're really, really, really sure we're right.

Your mental exercise for today: entertain an outlandish notion.

Whoa there, Mr. Lisolet, that is some dangerous talk for an Atheist!

You had better be careful my friend, because I would hate to have to rescue you from being burned at the stake by your own kind.

Now repeat after me:

Science is never wrong, because if science was wrong it would cease to be "science" and instead become a "religion".

Serpent, You sound pretty

Serpent,

You sound pretty foolish when you call Qiwi "Mr."

And why don't you try sticking to the topic at hand, which is the bias inherent in the political funding of scientific research. I know you have your pet issues by which you try to hijack every thread - free will, atheism, anarchism, homosexuality, etc - but if you keep it up, we will have to enforce our property rights like good libertarians.

Oops! ? is Qiwi a Ms.?

My sincere apologies if that is the case. I meant no disrespect.

Jonathan: And why don't you try sticking to the topic at hand, which is the bias inherent in the political funding of scientific research.

We live under an Atheist Theocracy, so ?politically funded science research? is a code phrase (euphemism) for ?Forced Public funding for the Religion of Atheism?. I?ve been on Micha and Qiwi?s case about this for a while now and how their perceived problems with ?government? are actually problems with ?the Religion of Atheism?, so I thought I was being on the point.

But I appreciate the warning Mr. Jonathan, and I will redouble my efforts not to offend the Majority here.

Rather than "redoubling

Rather than "redoubling [your] efforts not to offend" why don't you try making an effort to say something new for a change?

Might I inquire why you would automatically suspect some sinister motive?

Perhaps I just like Mr. Kennedy and/or his Blog?

Maybe I am just trying to help increase his site traffic? Free advertising.

But just for the record, I am not associated in any official capacity with the No Treason site.

I pity Atheists, Titus, I don?t hate them.

But I don?t see what that has to do with "Unbiased Government Science", or the ?Inerrancy of the One True Religion of Atheism?.

Science (Atheism) can?t be wrong. Only Christianity (Theism) can be wrong.

Something inside the Laws of Physics makes its so.
