Star Wars Trilogy (Ep. IV-VI) on DVD Sept. 2004

Good news for the geeks among us:

"Star Wars Trilogy," one of the most-requested DVD episodic film franchises, is expected to be released as a four-disc DVD box set Sept. 21, with a global rollout on DVD expected within days of the domestic release, according to Lucasfilm Ltd. and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

The trilogy featuring the classic franchise films "Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" will be released on three DVD discs, with a fourth disc likely to hold a newly made documentary about the "Star Wars" franchise and never-before-seen footage, among several other bonus materials, said Jim Ward, Lucasfilm's vp marketing and distribution and the DVD trilogy's executive producer

But will it be Special

But will it be Special Edition or Original?

I'm not too thrilled about SE versions of the first trilogy. Star Wars SE was OK, save for Jabba and Greedo firing first (come on, that was why Han was such a bad-ass, he just blew away the bounty hunter)- I think the ending fight was better done. Empire's changes were barely visible, so thats OK. Never saw Jedi SE, but heard the changes were rather heinous.

Regardless, I want the original versions on disc.

I heard it will be the Special Editions and that the original versions will never be made available for sale on DVD - Lucas doesn't want them released.

That is also what I heard, but it matters not. People who want the original theatrical release versions will find a way to get them no matter what that fool George Lucas wants.

GREEDO DID NOT SHOOT FIRST!

I've heard that the "Definitive Edition" box sets of the unmolested original trilogy are going for like $500 on eBay. I have one of those, heh... ain't selling it, though!

My dad has that tape set,

My dad has that tape set, too. I think I need to hork it and render them to DVD. My roommate has occasion to go to Pakistan regularly, and loads up on all sorts of pirate booty. Perhaps they've already DVD'd the definitive edition set...
