Take the weather with you

Batten up the hatches, here comes the cold.

Depending on how sensationalist you prefer your news, this is either the coldest spell in two decades or four decades, or, as one Boston station put it, "the worst weather in the world." The day looked clear and bright, but the view from inside is deceptive. Wind is the killer, discussed on the news in units more appropriate for a hydrogen-powered car: 35 to 50 mph. It's so cold that even the ski resorts are closed, so cold that schools are considering closing to save on heating bills.

A local TV station report last night said that today could be the coldest January day ever in Boston.
