What is an example of a free market in power generation and delivery?

I can imagine that the technology at this point does not allow for real competition to exist because of the huge infrastructure of the power grid. Unlike telephone, television and internet, where the service can be provided wirelessly, I don't think every house wants separate wiring for every potential power company.
