Society takes the blame again

Several days ago, a motorcyclist was spotted speeding and running stop signs through Benton Harbor, MI, so a police officer gave chase. The motorcyclist drove over 100 miles per hour, crashed into the side of a building, and died. The motorcyclist and the officer were of different racial backgrounds. Two days of riots in Benton Harbor ensued.

The Detroit News had an article about the city's background and the riot aftermath today. Nearly everything from the kids' "lack of hopes and dreams" to the schools to the racial makeup of a nearby city were given their shares of blame. However - you guessed it - the motorcyclist, as well as the rioters themselves, essentially escape all blame. In other words, society made 'em do it. In fact, the article warns that society may lead other cities to destroy themselves as well.
